07/05/2004: "Florence - July 5"
Hey its the last couple of days in Italy....
Thanks for watching the website, and thanks for the comments and e-mails. Catch you all at home!
The hostel we are staying in in Florence is not so great. There were two flights of dark stairs to walk up before getting there. Then we get there, and we do have our own room, but there is no lock on the doors, and the beds are lumpy and squeak whenever you roll over. We were scared there might be bugs in the sheets, but so far so good. The single bathroom is up another very dark flight of steps. You have to be sure to the close the door at the bottom of the stairs first though, there is no door up top. The people seem nice though, and it is pretty clean, but we've been spoiled with the 3-star hotels we've been staying in, and the Beehive hostel in Rome.
Katie wanted me to add the sights we saw....we went to the Uffizi gallery and she was excited to see many famous paintings that she had studied. Her favorites were "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli and "Primavera" also by Botticelli. We saw the Duomo and Baptistry a couple of times, and will be going to the top of the Campanile today. Last night we hung out in the Piazza della Signoria - this is a piazza with many sculptures, including a copy of "David" (we will see the real one tomorrow) - we met an Italian man and his bulldog - see the picture.
That's about all for now, talk to you all soon!
