07/04/2004: "Verona, Milan - July 1"

Another travel day....

After having breakfast in our room, we headed to the train stazione (walk to the dock, take the 51 vaporetto to the station). Then onto "Fair Verona"!



In Verona, we left our bags at the station, and Mike figured out how to get us to the sights (he's become quite a map-reader!). First we saw the Arena (like the Colosium only smaller). Then we went to Juliet's Balcony. It was a small courtyard with a balcony. Love notes and graffiti covered the walls throughout the entire courtyard, so we left our own as well (see pictures). Then we went to Juliet's fabled tomb - it was in a crypt below the ground - it was very cold (felt great) and smelled mossy. Then back to the station and on to Milan (we made it with 10 minutes to spare and in need of some water!).

Once in Milan, we wandered around a few streets for awhile before finally finding our hotel. Later on we realized that it was a straight shot from the station...ha! After washing up, we went to see the Duomo (covered in scaffolding...all we saw was the side), the Galleria (Taurus the Bull was covered up by some convention seating, so we couldn't stomp his you-know-what for luck), the the Teatro Scala Opera House (again...scaffolding). To my skater chicas, remember eating at the Biffi restaurant in the Galleria? We passed it (& I remembered what table we had sat at), but we ate at McDonalds instead (Mike grabbed a Whopper from Burger King)! Oh my gosh, fast food never tasted so good after having Italian food for so long!! The only difference was that it wasn't "fast" food. It took forever to get our food. But it was soooo delicious, and the Coke was sooo refreshing!!!

ok, enough, we are beat....we've probably walked at least 10 miles today - time for sleep and tv (we have one in our hotel this time!!) :)
