06/26/2004: "Amalfi - June 26"
Since Katie is way too tired to write she has asked me to write for her. So this morning we woke up after drinking two bottles of wine, went down for the continental breakfast of cereal orange juice and croissants, and we made our way to the bus station for a day trip to Amalfi Coast.
The ticket was 5 bucks for the both of us, so I was like cool that's cheap. Well, it's cheap because the bus isn't air-conditioned and they packed the bus like they are moving cattle. We sweat the whole way there. I had a butt in my face and a pain in the butt in the chair next to me whining about how she was sick of touching me because I was hot and that she was hot and stuff. After a while the air conditioning worked and we made it to Amalfi after 1 1\2 hours. It was now 12:30pm and we were ready for fun. The place looked like Seal Beach except it really wasn't a beach. The sand was replaced with pebbles. So I guess it was like Pebble Beach even though I don't know what Pebble Beach looks like. Anyway, so we went into a sandwich store to eat a panini and we talked to this lady who spoke perfect Italian but when she talked to us, talked to us in a thick British accent. So we were laughing about that. The food was good and we decided to go the beach. IT COST 5 BUCKS EACH!!!!! So we were like hey whatever, and paid. It was worth it! We got escorted to two beach lawn chairs and they had a huge umbrella and even shades covers built on the chairs. It was very posh. We felt like royalty. So we sat there and ate our gelati (ice cream) and people watched. I think Italy likes to show off butt, cuz it was everywhere! Big, skinny, old, young, firm, saggy, it was everywhere. It was fun to watch. Then I decided to hop in. It was very nice. I can now say I swam in another body of water other than the Atlantic or the Pacific. Anyway, we got tired so we bought tickets to leave. After missing the first bus back to Sorrento because we lined up at the wrong spot, we got on the other bus and took it home. It was a great day. I'm sorry to say we are leaving tomorrow, I wish it wasnąt true but we are. I must tell anyone who comes to Italy: 1 - Go to Sorrento and stay in the Hotel Il Nido, 2 - Go to Amalfi and hangout. You will have the time of your life. Anyway, got to go hope everyone is having a good time at home. Going to work and going home to sit at home and watch the Simpsons while we are walking around paradise!! SUCKERS!!!!
