Day 4 (May 30, '08): Another gorgeous day! We began the morning with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, debarking at the site of the Ancient Galilee Boat ("Jesus Boat"). This boat was found buried in the lake sediment in the 1980s and dates back to the 1st century A.D. Next we visited the ancient town of Megiddo, which overlooks the Jezreel Valley (Armageddon Valley - where the book of Revelation says the "last battle" will take place). Control of the town changed hands many times, and its rulers included the Canaanites, Egyptians, Assyrians, and Soloman. Especially interesting is a circular Canaanite alter that dates back to 2000 BC and an underground spring (accessed by a couple hundred stairs going underground, followed by a long tunnel). Mike -- coming out of this reminded me of the death stroll..."my eyes are bleeding, my eyes are bleeding!" After lunch (Falafel), we went to Muhraqa on Mount Carmel, where the sacrifice of Elijah occurred. Now there is a Carmelite chapel to commemorate the site, and the panoramic view from the roof of the chapel is fantastic.
